Format — Modified Swiss

Season 3 uses a Modified Swiss format. Pairings update each round based on current record, while initial seeding uses prior league and tournament results to create better early parity.

  • 1 match per week
  • 6 regular season rounds
  • Pairings update each round based on current record
  • Players with the same or similar records are matched together
  • No fixed full-season round robin schedule
  • Each round must finish before the next round is generated
  • Playoff / knock-out rounds follow the regular season

This keeps matches competitive throughout the season, reduces early mismatch rounds, and allows the standings to self-correct over time.

Regular season ties are acceptable. If both players finish tied after sixteen tracks, the result is recorded as a tie and both players receive 0.5 standings points.

If a match cannot be scheduled despite good-faith scheduling efforts from both players, YoyoYoshi may record the match as an administrative tie.

Each player may take up to one bye week during the six-week regular season. Bye weeks must be declared before pairings are posted.

If one player is inactive, unresponsive, or unavailable without good-faith scheduling efforts, YoyoYoshi may record the match as an administrative win for the available player.

Recommendations
  • Play with the Switch docked in the TV and with a wired connection for the best experience. Nintendo wired connection guide
  • Use the MK64 Switch Discord voice channels to coordinate with your opponent or take breaks.
  • If someone is dropped unexpectedly, a remaining host can create a save state to restore the game in progress.
  • Save states can also help if another player joins mid-race and you need to return to finish the race.
  • Pause after each cup to write down both players' scores.
  • Capture highlights with a capture card or the Switch's built-in recorder by holding the capture button.
  • Post interesting highlights in the Discord's 30sec-highlights channel.
  • If you stream your match, share it in the Discord's streams channel.
  • If you cannot stream or would prefer someone else stream, post the match time so others can stream or commentate.
